MEL

Multi-Engine Training

Allows a Private Pilot to fly a multi-engine aircraft for recreation or personal business use.

Take the first step to
becoming a pilot.

Let’s start with your Private Pilot certificate (PPL)

At SAFT, we’re committed to helping you achieve your dreams. We offer flight training that is fun, informative, and competitively priced. We’re dedicated to ensuring every student gets the flight training they need to achieve a private pilot certificate.

Our training programs are specifically tailored to fit the needs of our students, whether looking for a fast-paced program or a slower take-it-easy program.

Becoming a pilot is more than learning how to fly!

What do you need to become a private pilot? You must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age (but can start training earlier).
  • Be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Pass a routine medical examination.
  • Receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor.
  • Pass a multiple-choice written knowledge test.
  • Receive a minimum of 40 hours of instruction and solo flight time.
  • Successfully complete a check ride, which includes an oral and flight examination given by an FAA inspector or Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).

Start your journey to become a pilot. Once you earn your Private Pilot Certificate, you are authorize to fly most any single-engine, piston-driven aircraft anywhere in the US, day or night, in any visual conditions acceptable to Visual Flight Rules. You will not be able to fly for hire or compensation (although expenses like fuel, oil, and rental charges may be shared).

What is included?

  • Cessna 172 Skyhawk with 180 hp upgrade.
  • Ground lessons and dual flight instruction.
  • Sanford Airport security badge access.
  • Headset available for use.
  • Digital study material package (Books, syllabus, etc.).
  • E6B, plotter, logbook.

Now looking for an IFR rating?

The instrument rating requirement is often considered a fun training goal, but it’s also one of the most valuable ratings a pilot can have. Even if an instrument pilot never intends to fly in the clouds or conditions outside of visual flight rules (VFR), an instrument rating will provide an extra layer of safety just in case things do not go as planned during a flight.

What do I need to get an IFR rating?

  • Read, speak, write and understand the English language
  • Hold at least a current Private Pilot Certificate.
  • Receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor or accomplish a home study course for the aeronautical knowledge required for the rating.
  • Receive an endorsement from an authorized instructor to take, and pass, the instrument rating Knowledge Test.
  • Receive and log the required flight training.
  • Successfully complete a check ride, which includes an oral and flight examination given by an FAA inspector or Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).

What is included?

  • Cessna 172 Skyhawk with 180 hp upgrade, or Piper PA34 Seneca II.
  • Ground lessons and dual flight instruction.
  • Sanford Airport security badge access.
  • Headset available for use.
  • Digital study material package (Books, syllabus, etc.).
  • View limiting device.

Ready for Multi-engine rating (MEL)?

A Multi-Engine Rating is a pilot rating that qualifies you to fly as pilot-in-command (PIC) of most light piston aircraft with more than one engine. Multi-engine training introduces the student to and teaches the unique operating dynamics of a multi-engine aircraft as compared to single engine.

The training teaches the student how to safely fly the aircraft in the event one of the engines fails, both the theory of single engine flight in that type of aircraft, and actual in-flight engine shutdown practice in a controlled and safe environment.

Multi-engine Rating

Required for a multi-engine rating:

  • Training hours to proficiency in a multi-engine aircraft.
  • Earn the required endorsements from an authorized instructor.
  • Take and pass a check ride with a pilot examiner to act as PIC of a multi-engine aircraft.

Not required to earn a multi-engine rating:

  • No requirement for a knowledge test (when the multi-engine rating is conducted as an add-on).
  • No minimum flight time requirement (however, you can expect to need 10 to 15 hours in the multi-engine aircraft before gaining proficiency.

What is included?

  • Piper PA34 Seneca II
  • Ground lessons and dual flight instruction.
  • Sanford Airport security badge access
  • A headset is available for use.
  • Digital study material package (Books, syllabus, etc.).

Sanford aircraft offered very professional flight instruction while keeping it fun and personal. At many flight schools the student is only another student but not here. Daniela and Chris took time to make sure my lessons went smoothly and were prompt to correct any scheduling conflicts. The aircraft are held to a high standard of safety and cleanliness and Chris is always there to help prepare the airplane for each flight. I highly recommend checking them out!

I can't say enough good things about Sanford Aircraft. Chris and Daniela were superstars! They are kind, professional, happily patient, and encouraging each step of the way (even when I don't use enough rudder while landing). They didn't treat me as a student. They treated me as a family member, who happens be a student. I consider them a part of my family, too. They are very organized, and they lay out ahead of time lesson plans so that the process of getting a PPL is not a surprise. I always knew what the next lesson would be. Scheduling is easy. The aircraft are meticulously maintained by Chris, who is also a highly regarded airplane mechanic (and an ATP pilot). Their standards are very high with everything they do. Their standards are also high with what they expect from students...but truth is always given with love. I wish every flight school (and every business in general) was run this way! I agree with a previous review...this is the best flight school in Central Florida.

I live in Sanford around the Airport and I always wanted to see how it would be being a pilot and fly those little planes! Well Daniella, gave me that opportunity to put my foot in her shoes "literally" for almost an hour to experience how to control the aircraft and explained a taxi way and runway and much more I can't remember all cause i was so exited lol. I saw Daniella's add in my Instagram and it didn't take me seconds to schedule for Discovery Flight, I recommend to everyone who likes to experience flying even for a few minutes in pilot seat, and to be able to control the gears, it really worth it
